Search Tips

Finding What You’re Looking For

Our search tool allows you to access our entire auction history back to 2017. Whether you are looking to see what specific items sold for, or are on a quest to find your newest treasure in our upcoming auctions, our search tool can help.

How It Works

Our search tool operates on keywords. For each keyword you provide, our tool will try to find each keyword in the description of each lot, and return results that best match all of your provided keywords.

Once your results are displayed you can change the sorting of the results, or further refine your provided keywords for more accurate results.

Sorting

Sorting is particularly useful when you want to see recent lots first, or want to see the highest price achieved for a particular category.

The sorting options are:

  • Relevance: the results are sorted based on what the search tool finds to be the most relevant results first, based on your provided keywords.
  • Auction Date: the results are sorted with the most recently offered lots appearing first.
  • Estimate: the results are sorted with the lots with the highest estimate ranges appearing first, in descending order. This can be particularly useful for lots in auctions that have not yet finished.
  • Price Realised: the results are sorted with the lots that achieved the highest price at auction first, in descending order.

Following Keywords

If you bid in multiple collecting categories it can be time-consuming to frequently search for multiple goods – particularly since auctions are different week to week.

Following keywords makes it easy to return to your most common searches, right from your account. Once you have found a selection of results using our search tool simply click the “Follow Keyword” button on the results page.

Your followed keywords are available in your My Account section and can easily be loaded to show current search results, or deleted if you no longer want to follow those keywords.

Keyword Notifications

Since each auctions’ goods vary so much from week to week, it can be time-intensive to review each auction for the things you’re looking for.

Our keyword notification tool will send you an email if new items that match your followed keywords come up for auction. Think of it like a handy concierge service that reviews each auction for you for the things you love.

To get keyword notifications simply use the search tool to get your results and click the “Follow Keyword” button. When prompted, click the checkbox regarding emailing you about that followed keyword. We respect your privacy and your inbox, so we will only send you these emails if you have opted into the service, and you can opt out at any time in your My Account section.

Advanced Searching

While simple queries like “cupboard” will return many results, and you may find what you’re looking for with some determination, it’s possible to use our search tool’s advanced searching features to help you find exactly what you’re looking for.

Include A Word

If there’s a word that must appear in your search results simply place a plus sign (+) directly before the word:

cupboard +pine

This will find all lots that have the word pine in the description, and lots that have the word cupboard will also be included, but is optional and will not be considered as relevant. The +pine modifier says that the lot must have pine in the description.

Exclude A Word

Our auction history is vast, so search results often contain many hundreds or thousands of lots, depending on your keywords.

A great way to reduce the number of results, and drill down to exactly what you’re looking for, is to use the minus sign (-) directly before a word you wish to exclude:

cupboard -pine -walnut

This will find all cupboards that do not have the words pine or walnut in their descriptions.

You can combine inclusions and exclusions! For example, if you wanted to find all pine cupboards that are not Quebec pine you could search for:

+cupboard +pine -quebec

No Modifiers

When you do not use any + or – modifiers our search tool treats all words as optional, so pine cupboard will show lots that include either or both words, meaning you may end up with a much larger result set including pine furniture that are not cupboards, and cupboards that are not pine. Using the modifiers are a handy way to potentially save a lot of time.
